My Story

Over three years my Dad and two Uncles were taken by Cancer. Growing up we were always a very close whanau, my Uncle Tim was our Judo instructor, owning his own Budokai we all trained under him and he was a great mentor, very funny and dedicated to helping his community he worked as a tour guide and was hillarious. My Uncle Jimmy and my Dad bith worked in the forestry and they owned a punga business with my Uncle Roger. As a kid I worked in the pungas with my brother and several Cousins even though it was hard we all got on great and pretty much did everything together. My Dad was a lover of the outdoors and we played many sports together including Rugby League, Touch, Cricket. In his later years he absolutely loved golf and played up until his death. All three of them were taken within three years of each other and it has been tough going for all of us.

Beards aren’t just for hipsters, those with tatts, men that ride motorbikes or people that are too lazy to shave. All you need to do is grow a beard (or some bum fluff) for the month of December, and promote your facial hair to raise awareness and funds for New Zealand’s second biggest cancer killer – bowel cancer!

Bowel Cancer kills more than 1,200 New Zealander’s every year and a change in bowel movements is one of the most common symptoms. The good news is that bowel cancer is curable in more than 75 percent of cases if caught early. We need your help to continue our lifesaving work, so please help by showing your support this Decembeard.
